I found my finace on Yahoo! chat. Totally random thing! We've been together for 3 1/2 years!

We still talk or write each day and hardly let a week go by without seeing each other. So, it really can work out. I have been getting on with someone who I got in contact with through internet dating. We have been corresponding with someone for 6 months through email, phone %26amp; text. He keeps saying that we should meet up, so last week I took the initiative and tried to arrange a date. He agreed to meet tommorow, but then yesterday while we were texting he said something had come up (a work do) and that we are going to have to rearrange (I am guessing work do's are arranged weeks in advance?!)

Is this guy wasting my time - whats the opinion out there??

Should I bother with this guy still, or am I just being impatient?

He could be wasting your time, could be married? or he could just have bottled it. Have it out with him online ask him what his intentions are. Life is far too short to be wasting your precious time. If you do arrange to meet please please take a friend with you incase he turns out to be a weirdo.

Absolutely not, I don't care how good I think it would feel. You should always give it time, whether it occurred through the internet or face to face. Life is to precious to just give it up on the first date. Wait at least until the fourth date when you should know a little more about the person.

I began with my internet dating on Lava Life and I can tell you that for me it was quite a learning experience. If you are mature and you know what you want and can tell people what you want without playing games then I think you can make this site work for you. I began in October 05 and dated a few nice men - with nothing with potential. Then in February a man who I had sent a smile to (I didn't purchase credits - easier for the lasdies to do this then men), decided to purchase credits and sent me a message! I couldn't believe it! Well it's history from there - he lived in another province, within 2 weeks I was visiting him for 10 days and then he moved to my province in April! We are in love and we plan on building our future together! All the best out there! The internet can be an advantage, use it safely and wisely!

Reply:When I was single I met several women who I dated. Sure, there were some dates with people that were total disasters but that is only normal when your dating. Being a guy I think I had it easier than a lot of women do on these sites. I have heard a lot of really bad stories from some of the women I dated about other guys they had gone out with. The key is be careful, take your time, and never be afraid to walk away when it doesn't feel right. Like any other form of dating you will still have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince.

I have been having a go at internet dating to try and meet different guys. Also using personal ads. I always seem to get the same old problem guys will chat to me for hours online but trying to get them to meet up with me is like getting blood from a stone. How can I streamline the process to get rid of timewasters and end up with better results. How can I tell if guys are genuinely interested and get them to commit to a date. Is it a good idea to phone them up first as I tend to do things on the computer what with my being unemployed and it can be cheaper. Does phoning a guy make him more likely to warm to you? How quickly should I try and get a date with them? I want to know how to strike a balance between seeming to pushy and being too distant so they don't want to bother with me. I get a lot of guys pulling out of dates at the last minute and I get very tired of it. Am I going about things the wrong way and how can I get better results? sorry but most of the guys have found that going too quick with online dating is a mess. They will want to really get into your head before they meet up. Your best bet is to find someone new at online dating. Just be patient and things will work out. If you are just horny, then let them know and they will be right over.

I've done the entire internet dating thing before, so I know what you're going through here. My opinion is that you should wait until things feel right between the two of you. Slowly get to know eachother, don't rush things. When you two begin to build a sense of knowing one another and trust, I think then more personal details (like a phone number or a face-to-face meeting) should be shared. It's not like there's really a set time for things, it should just feel "right." Just remember, when the two of you do meet, make sure it's at a public place and casual. I hope this helped! Reply:It depends on you. Most girls that I have talked to have given up after a few (3-5) months. Some people may be awkward about giving out number. I was given one from a woman and we met, but she and I just talked for about an hour. Nothing happened at all, but she did tell me she just wanted to be friends. I've been doing Internet dating now for about 3 mos. I'm by far not the most attractive man out there but still find myself unable to meet someone that I myself am attracted to. My pic is here: http://www.geocities.com/grcboy2/n557441...

This is the only pic I'm using right now but still send out messages only to see them deleted. I am not contacting the most attractive or popular women either. Most of them are just cute average women only to see them deleted or chat and then they don't come back. I have literally contacted I would say about 100 women and have got no responses. Why?

Reply:Hi... well, i have met a few people on the internet, and my last encounter was a total disaster... met a guy who lied about himself (everything!!!). He said he sent his daughter to college, was buying a new house, that he was financially stable, and lots of other things.. my first reaction should have stayed with me... why was he bragging? It was because he never paid a dime for his daughter's college education, couldn't even make his OWN house payments let alone buy a new house, didn't even know what sort of things his daughter did as a child (such as dance lessons, music lessons, etc).

I'm not a gold digger by any means, and if he'd have said "i'm struggling financially" i could have made the choice to take it or leave it!

He also claimed to be family oriented? Nonetheless he didn't know anything about his own daughter and i watched him treat his mother terribly more than once.

I'm sure there are a lot of nice people on line, but finding them is the issue.

I suppose that it doesn't matter where we meet someone, it takes time to get to know them and figure out whether they are sincere and honest or full of crap!!!

Have you ever thought of joining a gym or taking karate (or some other) lessons? Some communities offer singles groups, and these people do things together, like arrange social events such as going sight seeing or to a casino, dances, and other things. If you put yourself out there and mingle socially, it might be easier to meet others?

I know it's a jungle out there... i give UP!!!

Also, maybe you could find a hobby or two to keep you occupied in your spare time? Being content with your own company is also important.

Reply:First of all, Joseph, you're a great looking guy, so don't sell yourself short. I do think you need more than one picture on any profile, though, and they should reflect your lifestyle and interests, like if you like to surf, then a pic of you at the beach, etc. you get the idea.

Also, remember that alot of women, myself included are just scared to trust anyone they don't know, because we've all seen movies, and heard true life horror stories.

Reply:I hear you brother. First time I registered on Match.com I got 2-3 responses everyday from attractive women. Since I met many and dint have anything in common, things fizzled away. So next time I re registered and then booom, not one in 5-10 days! so it really depends. Women on these dating sites are way too careful, whereas we as men mostly look at looks.

And also women tell me that they get 100 winks a day and have to hide their profiles and men dont get more than a wink or two every day. So , its diff for both sexes. First, the pic you show is a bit intimidating, not bad, just intimidating. Women like to see men in more natural pics rather than poses. Do you have a dog or cat? You could put their pic up. Do you have any pics of you with your friends or family? You need to have at least one pic on your profile smiling. Women need to see your teeth. Some of us won't even respond to someone if we don't see a full set of pearly whites. Your teeth don't have to be perfect, we just need to know you have them and are confident enough to smile.

Second, you have to make sure you do not mispell anything on your profile or in your emails. Most women get instantly turned off by that. I know I do.

This friend of mine met a guy on the NET and after a year of chatting and sending each other their pics, they finally decided to meet. It was a hit and they both realised they were in love and within a few months they were married. She is now a mother and they're still going strong, so yeah it might work but the chances are one in a million... (pretty much the same as the real world anyway ha ha ha!).

A lot of people will go home with someone they met in a bar but will string someone along forever online before meeting, as if it's somehow unsafe or something. No worse than meeting strangers in a bar and taking them home, and if you meet in public during the day while getting to know each other its much safer.

Most people dont use their real picture on Y!A, they either use a likeness or no picture at all. Many people who post on dating sites use pictures that are particularly flattering, or are several years old.

I was sat here this morning to trying to imagine what some of the Y!A regulars (who dont have pics) look like and it reminded me of the good old days, before the internet , when we had chat 'n' date phone lines. I met some right old freaks!!!

Has there ever been a time when you've met some in real life for the first time and they weren't what you expected? What happened? How did you react? (Serious or funny answers appreciated)

One woman that I met was mildly psychotic, seems she forgot to make note of her multiple fractious personality disorders at the time she penned her profile.

Another was married and to a man who could have me killed between business meetings and without going to too much trouble.

the last one was just really shallow!

I have been doing online dating for a couple of years now, with not much luck. It seems like a lot of the guys are just simply unattractive (not to be mean- but fat, nerdy, etc.), or they are the good-looking type but want Miss Perfect or they're serial daters (they want to see you and everyone else or the "you're good enough now til' I find someone better), or just completely have no time for you, or they live too far. I have met a few guys that were quite attractive, but two were married to their jobs, one lived too far, and I caught the other in bed with an ex. Does anyone else relate to this? I am quite an attractive woman with a good personality (so many people ask why I'm still single and it's really getting annoying) and would like a boyfriend, but that's impossible if I can't even get a date. First of all you want someone attractive which the internet rarely will provide simply because of how easy it to deceive others ie. through photo stealing, photo shop, or deceptive camera angles. Second of all you expect this person to have an excellent personality which is another thing the internet is terrible at displaying. It's hard to look into someone's personality when all your reading is text based on what they think others think of them. Which often times is either false or heavily exaggerated.

The internet is great for those that don't have the time, confidence, money, etc. to partake in the normal dating scene. But at the same time it's bad because the total anonymity of it allows people to be deceptive in order to trick others in the hopes that when this person meets them they'll just stick with it because they've invested so much time into it.

People may see you as coming off as shallow but it's really being honest. How many times have you gone to a dating site and skipped over someone's profile all together just because they weren't attractive, overweight, etc. Or saw someone's picture and instantly was prepared to message them without even reading their profile... I can tell you everyone does that.

I have done this and it has worked out for me. I am now married to the man I had a long distance, met on the internet, relationship with. I will tell you from a woman's point of view, you will need to make an extra effort at this relationship. Call when you can, send cards, small gifts or gestures to her. Let her know you care and she is important to you. This is going to require more work than if you had met a traditional way. But if it's right and you believe she is worth it, it will be worth the extra effort. Good luck to you and this can work out, if you both want it too.

I'm in a living situation with my mom who is disabled. She is divorced and I am single, never married. Until one of us has a life change we live together because we enjoy one another and I help her. If it means a rift with your mom, then I think you have to make it as small a rift as possible, but you can't give in and keep your adult status.

I don't do it, nor do I use Myspace as a dating site, but to each his own. I think it's rather lame. There's a world outside of the internet, I think people are forgetting about it. Internet dating is not only risky, it's usually a big let down.

My friend moved out to Pittsburgh for a job. He didn't know anyone so he went onto a website for people in that specific area. He found a girl that liked to gamble and they started to see each other. They dated for two years and are getting married next year.

I have a friend who is too busy to get out there and meet people the old fashioned way, so I wondered if internet dating is still considered a bit desperate and sad, or is it the modern way to do these things?

What's the general opinion on internet dating?
Although its the modern way to do things, i still prefer going out and meeting people in person, because you never know, they may not always be the people you think they're going to be, and its quite dangerous.

And also, if they're meeting you over the internet, how many other people are they meeting over the internet? At least if you know someone off the internet you can trust them.

Its like internet shopping, you can get clothes online, but you can't feel them or see the real colour, wheras if you shop normally, you can try them on and see the real colours and feel the material...i wouldn't internet date, i think it is a little sad really.

Reply:I wasn't looking to meet someone and only joined MySpace as I am heavily involved in music and nearly all my musical buddies had pages. They used to talk about gigs and musicians I'd never heard of and this prompted me to construct my own.

Shortly after, a stunning girl messaged me saying how much she liked my song and had seen us play a few months earlier and had really enjoyed our set. Asked when we were due to play again etc.........the rest as they say is history.

Reply:My only problem with it is that you have no way of knowing if the other person is who they say they are. This means that you are placing alot (including your health) on the line, More so than with standard dating.

My father and sister came to me and suggested that I give it a go. I'm 22, british male and have been single quite a while now.

Thing is, I'm not sure about it. I always considered internet dating to be a very desperate measure, a last resort if u will. My opinion is the only people who apply r those who have little to nothing to offer (I apolagise if I insult anyone with these words).

I probably have nothing myself to offer any young ladies, but I'm not sure if I want throw in the towel and admit that.

Reply:Oh Boy..first of all you are right that there are really desperate people online looking for nothing but sex or to please them. But I met my husband online on matchmaker.com and how i did go about it was. I would find the ones that i am interested in by looking at their profile (very carefully) and then email them and if things went well I would keep chatting for at least 2 weeks and then you'll find out more about the person. I was online for 6 months and I met at least 30 men just for coffee or lunch, no drinks or dinner. out of the 30, I'd say 95 percent really liked me but i only kinda liked 5 or6 of them. But i would narrow it down and then I finally found the one. bam! it was like fire works..we had great rapport online and on the phone and we met after we chatted and talked on the phone (4 weeks) talked openly about everything...I think you'll know when you meet the right one. and we have been together for 5 yrs and we have a 18 month old and we are very happy!

I have been Internet ? for awhile. Although I do have lots to offer. I find that people don't take this serious at all. Or I have not met them yet. During the duration of Internet chatting, I have met some people who have fooled me into thinking they wanted long term relationships. But all they tryed to get was sex. Then the other's are scared off when I tell them they must get tested before we enter the physical part of the relationship. Truth is,The world it's self has become so confusing. That the Internet is more upsetting than anything else.

I share your skepticism of internet dating, but know several couples that have met that way. One couple is living together, another got married, and a few others dated and then became good friends.

About a month ago I joined an internet dating site and was psyched when a guy I had my eye on initiated contact with me. We swapped messages on the site, and then he gave me his regular email address. We had been writing that way, though I've been writing other guys (with far less interest) on the site (which he can see on my profile) I'm a chatty type, but I know the drill about internet contact: don't share too much over the wires, keep the good stuff for one-on-one contact, don't appear too eager. I dropped a couple of hints, telling him that I was enjoying getting to know him, but he never reciprocated. He continued to send polite, attentive, encouraging messages, utterly void of romantic element. Rats. His last message was the breezy, "gotta run, Christmas is coming" sort; so I returned an equally breezy "great, have a good time with your family." Since then I haven't heard from him. Should I send another note--or just stay mum and move on?

I know several people who have tried this type of dating. However, here's the problem: Any type of long distance dating does not allow us to see the real person and what they're really like. It's easy to put on a pretense online, but seeing someone interact with others shows their true self. Until you meet the person, you never know who they really are. I know of someone who is anti-Christian (someone the Bible would call an apostate) who is on a Christian online dating service. He is apparently trying to lure some away from the faith. Internet dating is very dangerous. Don't do it.

So I dont know...I mean from her experience I guess it is good- But if I were single I could not see myself going to a internet dating site- maybe I would who knows...but in the past I would of never of done that. I have tried internet dating and found that women will not show up for dates, dont look like their pictures, or say they will meet then never write back ( c'mon, it says right on there you are online, active in last 24 hours etc!!! ) Do they think they are fooling us guys ?? I think it is because they feel they are unaccoutable for their actions because to them its an image on a computer, not a real human they are lying to...I am afraid it is a reflection of how dishonest society has become....it is ok to lie..

Reply:There so much dishonesty on those dating sites because if people told the truth, they'd never get laid. Also some people are just teasers and love the attention that they're getting on-line, but wouldn't act on it in real life. And no it's not OK to lie, I'd rather tell the truth and face that punishment then lie and have to look at myself in the mirror knowing that I wasn't truthful. But it's taken me many years to learn that lesson.
Reply:People lie because they are insecure about themselves. They are afraid that if they present themselves as they really are, they won't get any hits at all. They might not show up for dates because they don't want you to find out that they've been lying about their age, appearance etc. Instead of getting pissed off about being stood up, you should just forget about em. No one wants to be in a friendship/relationship based on lies. I even bet you that the person or people who stood you up knew this and that's one of the reasons they didn't show. They felt guilty.

Reply:They lie, both guys and girls, because they can. It is simply not a good idea to try to meet folks online. Occasionally someone has a great experience, but I am afraid those are few and far between. The most usual experience is what you have been through. Have fun chatting or whatever, but I wouldn't try to get serious.

Reply:Women aren't the only ones who lie. Men lie about their age, to get younger women. Men lie about their height. Men lie about their relationship status. I've also heard a lot of women complain that men post old pictures, or pictures with hats on, to hide their baldness.

I'm not sure what the problem is. Part of it may be purely attempts to be deceptive, but I think there could also be other factors involved.

True or not, society bases a lot of what it perceives as attractive on youth, thinness, wealth, and good looks, even though most of us don't fit that ideal. Now... what do you do when you're trying to attract someone when you know you're not ideally attractive? I've heard about 'no show' dates. I always wonder if that happens because the less than honest person is afraid their lies will come to light. Maybe they're hoping 'love' will spring during the written part of getting to know someone? Then they hope their 'little lies' will be forgiven.

I think people should state clearly what it is their looking for. Saying something like, "I don't mind dating someone who isn't thin." or "I prefer to date someone near my own age." would cut down on the desire of others to lie. Those points aside, I also think there's just a lot of plain old dishonestly on the internet. It warrants a lot of careful thought when attempting to meet anyone you find here. Then I consider how busy a lot of people are these days, I do believe internet dating can be a good idea. I was a victim of Internet Dating scammers from Nigeria. The Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, DC has not been helful at all. I would like to do a background check on the ladies that scammed me. There are many background check websites, but I need to know web link of the most useful one.

True.com says it does background checks but I've seen married members on their website. In addition, True.com uses bait and switch tactics to lure members into paying for a membership. By the words of former members of true.com... true.com is among the worst of the worst.

eharmony.com has a good track record with keeping out scammers and fake profiles, but this is because of the hoops you have to jump through and the high membership fees of eHarmony.com.

The best thing to do is to learn tactics to keep yourself safe on the net. First and formost would be not to send money to someone you've never met in person, and don't do favors for anyone that you don't know personally. In fact, there are probably scammers living in your city, who are using these internet dating sites to find their next victim.

When I've met women on the net, I look for things in their profile that would indicate they really are a local resident... Such as the background in their pictures, mentions of local hotspots, and other details that may give hints. When I chat with them I ask them a couple of local geographical questions. After a couple of emails, usually anyone serious gives me their phone number or their IM screenname, but I always talk with them on the phone before meeting them. If I get a strange phone number (and I've recieved a couple foreign and out of state phone #s), I just delete the contact and move-on to someone else( Don't buy into any excuses, such as I'm on business). If the person isn't a local or not in my local area, I just assume that it's Boris the hairy scammer or another scammer.

Also, before I see someone I must see a few pictures of them before I meet them.

Finally, I get their full name then I do a google and an address check on them, to see if they're married or if they really exsist. I know some people who will pay $10 to do a simple background check, and I know one lady who pays $60 to do a criminal background check on guys before she meets them.

Then if I do meet a woman I choose a neutral location such as a coffee shop. Then I evaluate them for any sort of mental dysfunctions by keeping them talking about themselves. However, she may become threatend if I don't tell her what she wants to know about me, so a guy can't be too shady. Finally, I don't try to get them into bed , because I don't know where they've been...wink, wink, and I don't know how they'll react to man they have slept with.

Learn control of your feelings or libido to keep yourself safe. Just yesterday, I met a girl on another dating site that's probably an 9 out of 10... Very hot.. Platinum blonde, slender figure, cute face... the type that can get men to do whatever she wants them to do. She gave me her first name and her physical address on an IM system, and she asked if I'd spend the day with her. Instead, I ran a reverse address check on whitepages.com and I can up with nothing. With no phone# and no last name from her I wasn't about to take a chance, no matter how alluring her pictures and profile information happens to be... Better safe than sorry!

Then once contact is made they'll hire someone to talk to you on the phone. This person is rather skilled at making an emotional connection with the victim. Then comes the extortion... You may get an outside email from somone posing as a doctor, gov offical, or whatever that tells you the person's life was in danger and since you were in their address book thay thought you were the closest of kin. Then they ask for money to buy them an airline ticket, pay for their surgery, or to help pay for freight, or some other scheme.

There are millions of scammers on the net, and they use some very clever tactics to drain your bank account. In fact, my exwife just got bilked out of $3500 in a phoney home shopper scheme. Now, the bank wants her to pay up or else they'll ruin her credit.

Last, the person who scammed you probably used a fake name; and If you gave them the money they have no legal right to give it back to you. That's the beauty of many of these schemes... They legally bilk people out of money.

It has pros and cons. I don't believe in falling in love over the internet, rather I think it's another way to meet people. Instead of hitting the bars and clubs, you can meet someone on here and meet them in real life. I don't believe in falling in love with words. I think that those who "fall in love" with someone without having met them are a bit dilusional. People hide behind words and often, they will not be themselves. That's my opinion anyway :-)

Well, I tried eHarmony off and on for 2+ years. Met and dated numerous men. All of those men matched their pictures and the details of their lives as they told them to me.

Learned a lot about myself and what I did/didn't want. It takes fortitude to do internet dating. Difficult to met someone "backwards".....get to know them personally and then meet them. It's tough when you meet them and the attraction/chemistry isn't there.

Good news is that I stumbled upon a gem. Last guy from eHarmony has been a keeper. I sincerely believe he will be my husband. I'm 36, never married and feel I can say that without sounding silly.

It has been a wonderful experience with him. If we do end up together for life, we only have Neal Clark Warren to thank for it!

Believe me, never thought I would be saying that! :)

There are pros and cons....you must know yourself and trust the site you are on and be careful.

Bottom line, it has been mostly a positive experience.

I met several other people there and went out with a few guys a couple i saw more than once a few i just saw once things just weren't right with them for various reasons. But then i met my fiance and we've been together for two years now and are getting married in a couple months. We've even bought a house together.

But I think that Internet dating can work out on occasion, but it usually doesn't work for various reasons. I know a few of my friends who have tried to have serious relationships over the internet. It took one of my friends TOO MUCH TIME to realize that she was running after a jackass, but she did eventually realize it (and now she's running after a different jackass, but that's another story...), and one of my other friends has been with her boyfriend for about a year and they have held their relationship together through the internet and the phone. It can work, but it usually doesn't because most people feel like they need to physically be with that person...it all depends on the person. It can work, but I wouldn't count on it.

My brother-in-law and his wife met online and they've been married for almost ten years, so it definately can work.

However, I'd set a few good guidelines here...

- Don't start dating anyone that you haven't met in real life.

- Don't communicate solely through the internet -- talk to each other on the phone, write to each other, visit each other, etc.

- Be sure to hang out with other people while you are together as well. Friends and family will be able to help guide and support you better if they know your significant other as well. Plus, when you meet his/her friends and family, you'll be able to see how s/he acts around them.

Also, a bit of advice -- don't hang out solely on "dating" sites... a lot of guys consider girls on there desperate and may try to take advantage of them. Try getting involved in a website that has to do with something that you're interested in, whether it's movies, music, arts, sports, whatever. Meeting people in that way will ensure that you have at least one thing in common!

Internet dating is no different when it comes to safety. However, knowing the person’s first and last name you can run searches if safety is a major concern. You can Google the person, and a lot of times you will find out a lot from just that. Also if you search on 411.com directory, you can find out where he lives and who he lives with (if he is married, the wife is listed at the same address with the same telephone number). You can search court records on line in his local court to see if he is actually divorced (if he says so), because he can actually be separated, you can find out if he has children (some people lie about having children, you can find out about his moral character, for instance if he has been sued in small claims court, and what it was for, unlawful detainer (eviction) lawsuits etc. Many times, in Google search his company name will come up if he is listed in the company directory. If he’s had any television appearances or commentaries in press, etc. you may be able to find that out. Good luck!

First off, the freebie ones don't generally work. To get a real benefit out of it, you must actually pay and join one. I met my gf through an internet dating site and have had countless of dates that way as well. It really boils down to how comfortable you are with meeting people online. I pretty much grew up with computers in my life, so meeting people online is second nature to me. My advice would be to buy a subscription to a site (I have found Eharmony and Match to the be the best ones and American Singles and Yahoo Personals to be the worst) and start from there. When you get some contact with others, email back and forth for a while, asking each other questions about what they do for fun, if they have any siblings, etc. to get to know them some. After a few emails, you should ask to meet up, if you haven't been asked already and take it from there. The best places to meet up I have found are casual ones, such as Starbucks or another coffee shop.

In June, I discovered that my boyfriend of 8 months is still on a dating internet site. It bugged me (and still does, to a point) that he still needs to look. When I confronted him about this in June, he assured me that it’s not a big deal and that he isn’t looking to meet anyone else. I didn’t want to control the situation because I know that that wouldn’t work, it would only make the matter worse. I do trust and believe him, since we are together daily, but some days I feel insecure about it (like today). I am patiently waiting for him to delete it, but it’s been 8 months later, and he still checks it every couple of days or so. My gut feeling is telling me that he is on there really just for the acknowledgement and/or boredom. Like I said, we spend all our free time together and I have met some of his friends and his mother. I really don’t want to make a big deal of this to him, but at the same time, in the back of my mind I know what he is doing and I feel like at any point he’ll tell me that he’s met someone online and wants to date other people. So with that I am trying not to feel too much for him, but after 8 months, it’s starting to get difficult to not feel anything serious for him. What should I do? Leave it alone or continue to bring it up?

What are some good internet dating sites and which ones should I stay clear from? I've tried Yahoo Personals and Match but Yahoo is very glitchy and they recycle the same ads over and over again to make it appear there are more ads than there really are. I can't stand Match and I think both sites rip you off. I have tried internet dating and out of the ten men I have tried meeting, none seem genuine. Do people use the sites to get sex?

I don't trust it because its not really safe, no matter how SAFE it claims to be.

Sure it can be easy, and it can save some time and money... but People can still be fake, or turn out fake. And on top of that, there is the reason WHY they do it too...

MOst people who do online dating do it because they know they can find a person who'll tell them everything they 'want to hear'. It's sort of like a 'one night stand' if you compare it to the real world.

And yeah, it is used to get sex (those who are either easy or desperate) - but not only that, people out there can be dangerous and try trapping you into siutations. Others, (eg: Most of the jerks you meet in chatrooms) just have a perverted mind, and want something to 'drool over' or play with.

i have such good experience with Internet Dating. actually it's actually fun to meet the right person. there might be fake people out there but there's a big difference with internet dating and reality dating. in both ways, you can get hurt by them or have a success relationship through that. but i found the man of my dreams through internet dating. we talked online and write emails alot and ended up meeting each other and then we hit it off. even though we live so far away. hes from europe and im in asia. we got it going on and now we are living together. there might be things that you dont see when you were still writing with that person but relationship is like that. it has it's own upside down no matter what. i say that internet dating is the best way to meet the person you want to be with. at least you will get to see how a person is when he or she is writing to you. words has it own meaning and characteristics. but beware there are also fake people there trying to make money out of you or just do it for fun. just the same thing what happens also when you date someone in person. but always take time to get to know the person. Always keep a sharp mind of how she/he respond to you. if she starts mentioning her/his money problems then shes not for real. or if she/he is saying that her/his mom is sick he can't afford to pay for hospital bills. you'll know that she/he is fake. one important thing you should know about a person that is really no faking about himself or herself is when he/she gets to know you better and talk to you like as friends. if he/she starts telling you that he /she loves you immediately when you just know each other for the first time then its not for real. dont be fool by the "love at first sight" because you just can't love somebody who don't know yet.

Yes. But, you can't go in it thinking your going to find 'the one' you have to go in it thinking, okay, I'm going to open my mind and try this thing out. I trustfully feel that it's not a bad way to go but, just don't put your all in it. Still go out, still date, the Internet is just another way of doing it. Currently, I have one profile on a site and it's working out pretty good, i loving great convo, so it's fulfilling my need at the moment.

I've been divorced for 5 years and have a young son. My ex and I are great friends, so I don't have terrible feelings around it. It took me a long time to get close to someone, only to have it be over in only 2 months. The man was hot but just totally wrong for me, a bit of a sexist pig once I got to know him better. Now I want to date some more, and have been using internet dating sites off and on for years, with no success. The men sound great on paper and their pictures are ok, but I just kind find myself getting hot over them! I can converse with just about anyone and have a pretty good time, but that doesn't mean there's chemistry. I'm sick of blind dates (even if I've seen their picture...so it's 'medium 'blind). I'm in my mid-40's and it's hard to find an unmarried man where I live close to my age. But I'm just plain too reluctant and scared to meet someone I've never actually "met" before. Any advice?

Everyone I know that has gotten married to someone they met on the internet has ended up unhappy, and married to complete freaks. Is there a reason these people are dating on the internet or can you really meet some decent people?

Those people aren't unhappy becaue they met their partner on the internet, they're unhappy because they didn't take enough time to get to know them before saying "I do".

Right now my best friend is living with a guy she met online, and they've been together over a year. Another good friend has been married nearly 2 yrs to her internet guy, and they dated a couple of yrs prior to marrying.

I've heard many other stories and had other acquaintences that had good relationships with people they met online...but just like relationships that begin offline, there are no guarantees. You could mean one of those 'freaks' at your local supermarket, fall for him (or her) and it would be no different than if you'd met originally online.

People online aren't all freaks, aren't all desperate, etc. They are the same people you see offline every day. I've used the 'net as a dating tool for many years now...had some good experiences and some mediocre, but none were horrid or frightening.

The internet is a good tool to use to meet people, but offline methods shouldn't be discounted. ☺

I think that internet "dating" is much like real life dating. You can meet freaks and morons in both forums lol. I think you just basically take your chances whenever you do meet someone. And just as in "real" life, there are people out there who try to be someone they're not in order to snag you and then you find out they're really not who they claim to be.

I would suggest that if you meet someone online and want to pursue a relationship, then take things slowly and make sure they're the person they claim to be. Me and Mike "dated" for about six months before I actually moved here (we would meet halfway and then take road trips on his bike together). That's not actually a very long time either. I just got lucky.

i just started, kinda, because i work alot and some sites seem cool. in my experience though, every guy ive met/talked with has been not single, not attractive in the slightes (and in mot even really picky about that stuff) or weird or just want sex. ive tried to overlook this and keep trying but it sucks. the only guy i actually ended up dating from online, i was embarassed to tell people how we met. what are everyone's, guys' esp., opinions on internet dating sites? any normal ones? eharmony seems really religious and for older people. myspace is sketch. ive never met anyone remotely with potential from match...i went out a few times with people on nerve who were interesting and creative, but def. only wanted sex.

I actually met my current boyfriend on Yahoo! Personals. Ya, dating in general is a hit or miss game. I'm in college and I met a few people off of Facebook, actually had a good relationship off of that, and a few little dating things. I understand what you mean by being a little embarassed to tell people how you met them, but meeting people on the internet is more common than you thought and there are sucess stories out there. When you do decide to meet someone, be smart about it. Do it during the day and meet in a public place with lots of people around. Meet them there, dont have them pick you up. Make sure someone close to you knows where you are and the guys name and all his info and can be reached right away just in case something happens. It may seem like you don't meet anyone good, but there are some good guys out there, it's just a waiting game. Good Luck!!

I was embarassed to tell my family where we met, but my parents are the only ones that know. Reply:When I was meeting people on the online personals sites (for about 4 years), I just kinda followed my intuition; usually I wanted to e-mail back and forth just a little bit before actually meeting the person - but normally we would make plans to meet pretty quickly; I mean, what's the point of sending each other e-mails for a month when you can actually meet in person? I'd say, it becomes obvious pretty quickly if you're even comfortable with the person; there's no need to "rush it", but you don't have to feel like you need to wait for months before setting up an actual date. Chances are, a woman who wants to "wait" for a long time is nothing but a problem anyway.

(I met my husband on the personals site, btw - so the effort I put into dating had finally "paid off". Don't get discouraged if you run into some setbacks initially, it's not a fast or fool-proof process. Good luck.)
Reply:Personally I like to e-mail for a week or two and then meet. You can get along well with someone but have no chemistry when you actually meet. I like to find that out as soon as possible. I also have found that people who keep putting off meeting may be just playing and not really serious. That's a waste of everyone's time.

No, no, no. The net isn't bad. It's a great way to meet people that you otherwise possibly would have never met. And if nothing else comes of it, you've made a new friend. Granted there are some a$$holes out there, but chances are that a rapist isn't going to pay for an internet dating service. (ESPECIALLY if you're in a smaller average sized town like I am. Now if you're in LA or NYC, the chances of a rapist paying for it are probably alot better...)

Reply:I don't necessarily think it is bad, you just need to be very cautious!!! There are certain rules that should be followed at all times.

#1 don't ever give any personal information out on the internet such as your address, home phone number, or anything else that would enable someone to find you.

#2 If you decide to meet someone in person, be sure you do it in a very public place and NEVER agree to leave with them!! You would even be better off to try to make it a double date if possible.

#3 Take it very slowly and be absolutely sure you can trust this person before ever engaging in any one on one meetings!

If you follow those rules you should be ok. Remember, people lie all the time, it is easier to do that on the internet!

In my opinion, internet dating for people under 21 (yes, 21 to me) is just plain stupid. These young, unknowing girls are going to get out and get hurt. And SOME men will sit there and take any chance they can get at getting some sexual activity.

Otherwise, there are internet dating sites like eHarmony or Yahoo! Personals where there are still dangers, but a lower chance of it.

I would never meet someone I knew online unless I got to know them extremely well. Precautions? Keep your location and last name personal.

Internet dating is helping a lot with people meeting, but it also brings up a lot of issues.

Really, it's not something I would do.

Others have a choice and it's up to them.

Internet dating is changing the way we meet people and the taboos that use to be associated with it are fast disappearing. It allows a person to get an idea of what the other person is like and as well it targets personalities.

Pitfalls are of course liars, cheats and pervs... Can't do much about someone that misrepresents him/herself but keep an open mind about what they say. If it is a guy you are meeting and he won't give you his phone number or wants to meet you in some out of the way place that should be a warning. Always meet somewhere public and have a friend call you at a certain time so you have an out.

I have been always amazed at the girls I have met that come to my place. It always is good but I would hate for a girl to go to a guys place only to get raped or some other bad thing happen. I think you need to still see him a couple of times to be certain.

Reply:Well, just like in life, there are some real creeps out there, and you have to be very careful. Just because you meet someone in a park, or at a bar, or at the library doesn't mean every word he says to you isn't a total lie to get you into some compromising position and take advantage of you...online is just another avenue to meet people.

I personally love it because I met my fiance through eHarmony and I would never have met him any other way-we were a year apart in the same high school and lived within 2 miles of each other for like 20 years and never met! It took eHarmony to introduce us, and for that reason, I'd never say anything bad about eHarmony...I also used Match.com at one time, but never got anywhere with them...too many men looking for 1 thing only-no thanks.

Reply:I like it because I don't have to go to bars. I'm not into the bar scene. It lets you get to know someone before you actually agree to meet them. It could be dangerous if the person was not careful about what they are doing. But, if you don't have the good sense not to give out your personal information to everyone who contacts you (whether it be internet dating or anything else out here), I don't believe you should be on the internet period! I think it is a lot more accepted than it was about 10 years ago when my one friends started doing it. I freaked out on her all the time for doing it. Now here I am doing it. Reason for this is cause out of nowhere some gilr 1000 miles away msgs me and we got closer. She was calling me daily. She sent many pics and she really cared about me. I found him too serious as he started calling me from the very first day that he got hold of my number. I was convinced that he was really sincere in his intention to build a relationship with me. We were so in love with each other until one day I asked him to set his Yahoo ID to his mobile device so I could still send him messages when he was at work and I was online. He told me he was too busy to do it so he gave me his password. I opened his account and to my surprise, another girl suddenly sent him a message asking him to call her that very moment. I tried to calm down and chatted with her. I found out that she was his girlfriend too. So, I showed myself to the girl through the cam and she was also shocked. I told her that I was my bf's girlfriend and she told me she was also his girlfriend. I confronted my boyfriend about it and he admitted it. We broke up. After 2 weeks, he called me again and told me he had already made up his mind and he had chosen me. We are still together until now but there never was a week that we didn't fight, it's all because TRUST is no longer present in the relationship. I found out that even after he told me he had chosen me, there were still other women, he was still communicating with other women from different dating sites. Yes,I am physically disabled and use Ascotworld Matchmakers and Dating4disabled it takes some time to find the right person,could be a week to one year.I think I may have found the right person after one year of emails we are yet to meet!

I've actually just gotten into it myself. And it's completely scary and different. But, I have yet to meet someone strange. And, actually yesterday, I had a very enjoyable date, that will have a follow up this weekend. So, sure, I'd reccommend it. Just be careful! Tell a friend where you're going, and meet in public, just be safe.

Here's my tips for successful internet dating:

1. Don't waste time trying to "get to know" someone online - it's impossible. If you like his profile and he emails you, send him your phone number and ask if he wants to meet at a coffee shop to bring it into the "real world". I went on about 100 coffee dates, about a third of those led to second dates, I seriously dated about 3 of those guys, and I married one of them.

2. Pick your criteria and stick with it... mine were that he had to live close enough to meet me for coffee easily, he had to have a good job, he had to be my religion, and he had to want to get married and have kids. I didn't care what he looked like.

3. As long as he doesn't completely repulse you, give him a chance. People can grow on you. Let him take you out a few times... My husband is my best friend, my lover, and my favorite person on Earth - but he took a while to spark my interest b/c he was 50lbs overweight when we met! I'm so grateful I gave him a chance!

I met my fiance online. If you're both honest and know what you want then it's great. I mean, what's the difference when you meet someone in a club? You don't know them any better than you would someone online.

i dove head-first into internet dating. not because im soooo busy, i just wasn't meeting new people. so i decided to be proactive about dating and i finally joined. literally out of 100 pics and profiles, i've narrowed it down to 3 guys i find interesting. ive done the emails, chats with them and have moved on to talking on the phone. all 3 "seem" really great. my concern is that i don't want to be a serial dater. it's none of my business (right now anyways) if they are dating tons of girls from the same online site, but personally for me - i just don't want to. should i just get over it and just date 3 guys at the same time until i end up with just one? or should i date one at a time until i end up with one? i already have plans for friday and have been asked out for saturday (haven't said yes). if i make the others wait for im afraid they will eventually become disinterested and move on. any advice?

Searching mate on internet dating sites like purcahse of other commodoties is questionable because sumarizing the attitude and behaviours of humans within the given frames is i think impossible so these links are fruitfull?

All they do is allow you to reveal all you want about yourself for free, then restrict the ability to communicate by allowing that ability to those who pay, then further frustrate that ability because they don't tell you that only about 10% of all visible profiles actually pay and those who don't pay may never see your messages, or if they do, can't reply back to it. All they want is your money and couldn't care less if your successful because if you are, then you'd have no more reason to pay anymore.
Reply:I think its fine as long as you don't rely on everything you read. Just like with commercialism. Many times you buy something because of a commercial or the boxing only to find out its crap. The internet opens up a bigger chance of meeting people you would not normally meet. I met my husband on the internet. But before him I met many men that once you meet them (in a very public place) you realize this is someone you would not like. And you start again. The internet dating is the same thing as any commodity out there. Never believe everything you read or see. If you go in thinking of it carefully and not placing all your hopes on it.. So...i try to find a girl in many "net" ways...such as myspace, mirc, other dating sites...And I try already months or if not years :)), and I don't want to give up that easily :)). But it seems that it's just IMPOSSIBLE to find a girl online. And yeah...i tried many different approaches, many different pictures of me, many sites.

But nothing works (and neither my expectations are big).

So what do you think? Is the internet dating useless???

However internet dating can be useful to a person that doesn't have the time to drive around town looking for the girl that is right for you.

I found that there are alot of smart girls on the internet who are looking for a guy that can articulate, that has a little depth, %26amp; can show a sensitive side.

Reply:I believe this all depends on the person and their particular experience within this area. I think that internet dating is along the lines of blind dating. You may be getting to know a person but pictures do not reveal everything. Also, you can never truly know if a relationship will work until you know what it is like to be right in front of the person, without the barrier of a computer.

Speaking from my own experience, I have had only one serious boyfriend from the net. My experience was great for the first few months when I was being shown a facade which I believed to be my boyfriend. By the 4th month, I saw the real him %26amp; it was horrible. I think that net-dating has the potential to work out, as it allows people an opportunity to really get to know each other through conversation and to consider more than the physical appearance of the person in front of them. However, there is always an opportunity for someone to portray a person who they may not necessarily be.

All in all, I believe it is worth the risk, but do practice with caution. Meet the person several times before you set your mind on becoming serious with them. I am not saying they are dangerous, but there is usually more to a person than what you originally think.

Depends how long since she last replied. She could simply not be at her computer. Leave it for a bit, if she doesn't get in touch after a couple of weeks, then she obviously isn't interested.

I think people would expect you to talk to more than one person, but I think it might feel wrong because it's like going on lots of "first dates" with girls, ie getting to know them on a one to one basis.

The girls will expect it and are probably also doing the same thing, but if it makes you feel awkward then just talk to one girl at a time

I think it's the expectations of others. I treat the on-line dating thing like a big "bar scene". There are people that hit on you that you want nothing to do with, and then once in a while, you find someone really nice that you want to date. me and this guy met on an internet dating site. we've talked on there and IM for a month or two, and both of us keep saying how we want to meet up with each other. we both live in the same city. however, when he asked for my number, he never called me. we have talked since, almost everyday, and he keeps making comments about how he wants to meet me and take me places, but never follows up on them.. i think i kinda like this guy, but i don't wanna wait on him forever. but, i'm not a pushy sort of girl, so how can i get him to finally make a move or SOMETHING without it seeming like i'm forcing it. We've seen a bunch of pics of each other, and it's only a matter of time before we bump into each other when we're out and about the town (it's not a very big town) so should i ask him out, or just show up somewhere that i know he would be, and take the meeting from there? Internet dating-wise, I've had this happen a couple of times. This is a clear sign of him NOT being available. Whether it's that he is in fact married, has a girlfriend or just likes the attention of having someone who he talks to online, he is NOT available. If he were, you would've met. He's communicating a lot to you by his behavior. It's been a month or two since you started iming?? Yeah, he's playing games. Trust me. My advice to you would be to either one, let it go and don't respond to him anymore (I get the feeling you won't do that) or two, be up front and ask him what's up. Don't be surprised ,if you go the up front route, if he hems and haws as to why he hasn't called or made a move to meet you. You could tell him you want to talk live and if that's not going to happen, you need to say goodbye. It's not being pushy at all, it is normal if you're really open to dating and meeting people to actually take the steps to meet! At best, being up front might lead to you guys meeting but I doubt it will go in a direction you would want things to go in. He may disappear afterwards (not being online or emailing) or find a way to keep stringing you along. I have been there and learned my lesson. If you're wondering why a guy is not stepping forward after 1-2 months of "talking", it's a good chance he's running a game. Plus, "liking" someone or getting attached before meeting them is ripe territory for hurt feelings. Good luck to you.

~I have used it in the past - until I realized that "chemistry" means a lot to me. As well as being able to look someone in the eye!

I'm very kind, honest and loving with an out-going personality. I'm generous to a fault, and have a huge since of humor. That said, I'm also insecure, I have a tendency to be a slacker occasionally, and I've never claimed to be very tactful - though I do try not to hurt your feelings - but, I tell the truth - if you really want to hear it.

I guess my point is: the same people that you come across day-to-day are the same ones using the int. dating... I'm not very different from anyone else... I'm just trying to be a good person, and live / share my life...

Reply:I think internet dating is a new way to meet someone. My husband and I met online 6 years ago. I am extremely outgoing and I have a ton of friends. I was involved in many school events and I was even in high level positions in the student council. My family is large and pretty close. My husband is much more shy but he was involved in sports and he is close with his family. When I go to parties I am a socialite and I have many contacts from my career in marketing/PR. However, because of my career I wanted to save time when I was dating. I couldn't very well "interview" my dates like I could get away with online! With online dating you have the GOOD excuse to ask so many questions of your potential date. This would NOT be acceptable in person, even if you were set up on a blind date. I got a great perspective before meeting them in person. I married the second person I met online and the first date although handsome and sweet and everything he said--well, no chemistry there. Online dating was simply much more reliable for me then meeting someone at a wedding or event and then waiting 10 dates to get to know the guy and then find out--no go. However, I am a fairly efficient type, perhaps too efficient.

My sister recently went on E-harmony. This is a rather expensive site as I understand it was 60$ for a month (much less for multiple months but still..). Now she is a GORGEOUS woman, educated, the VP, she has more money than anyone I know and self-made too! She didn't know I met my husband online either (back then we were too embarrassed to admit this) but I don't think she cared. She met a man who is just like her and they are engaged now. E-harmony is just like the old style dating services only thousands less and much faster.

I am not going to say you won't meet any weirdos. My husband recalls some "clingy" and "crazy" types he dated prior to me. But, his his prior girlfriend he met online and she was very pretty, educated, successful and I think she is very sweet. I think you would meet weirdos no matter how you met your dates. I met many men the conventional way and I can tell you many stories of weirdos offline! UGGG At least online I could sift through who I was not interested in without hurting feelings. Plus, since there are so many people online, I have found people to be more sincere because they have less to lose. They don't notice the rejection. For instance, a man would admit he has children online but may not in person until he gets to know you better. This type of dating just saves time. I have so many friends who have done this and I think it is just getting much more acceptable.

Whenever you meet someone, esp. if you are a woman, meet in a public place perhaps with another male friend and take the time to "interview" them and talk with them on the phone before meeting them. Sites like E-harmony help because they have lengthy questionaires that already match you very well before you even get their pics/info. The world of computers has really changed everything and online dating is getting much more acceptable. Good luck.

I did sign up for e-harmony but I didn't want to pay for something I didn't think I should be paying for. It ask you a lot of questions so I thought it was more serious then the other web sites. Hey all, I'm just curious as to why people look down on internet dating. I've dated many girls online because I've always been so busy with my career that I don't have the opportunity to go out to "social gatherings". Don't get me wrong, I've met girls in the past at work, school, grocery store etc.

My ex girlfriend I met in the Yahoo chat room and we were together for 2 1/2yrs! My current girlfriend I met on the Yahoo personals and I've been with her for 1 1/2yrs now and will probably get married in two.

Just curious as to any stories people have as to why they look down on internet dating. Or if you don't, I'm curious to read any other success stories.

I want to hear and talk about internet dating, both good and bad points. I've had some great, and some miserable experiences. Mostly, I don't get to meet enough people in my area. There are so many wonderful women out there over 100 miles away, and across the country too. Many women are contacting me from Russia and China, but its real hard to have a casual coffee date with anyone more than 2 hour's drive away, let alone a 15 hour plane flight. The internet is making the world smaller every day. But the world of "dinner and a movie" stays pretty much the same size. So, who wants to share their knowledge? I'm very open about my insights, and don't mind discussing any details at all. I think it is healthy to be able to talk about things like this these days. Hope to get many replies. Thanks.

I met my future husband on the internet. Unlike most people, we didn't chat for a long time before we met. We were bored out of minds and decided to catch a flick a week after the first message sent on ICQ. We were lucky enough to be living 30 minutes away from each other. We started hanging out and became good friends. Eventually, that friendship blossomed into love and now it's over 6 years later and we're walking down the aisle next year.

I personally don't think that one can fall in love with someone over the internet. It's easy for anybody to hide behind words and be someone else. You have to have that chemistry in person too. Anybody can pretend to be someone they are not on the internet. That's what I believe anyway. No matter how we might say that we are not shallow , a part of every individual hopes for the physical attraction too.

I think that the internet serves as a great way to meet new people, just like youwould if you were to hit the town. The only draw back is that not everybody will be who they claim to be.
Reply:I've done it twice. Hit it off great on line and over the phone. Then I met them and NO physical attraction at all. Now I'm stuck with how do I get out of this without hurting their feelings? Would like to try internet dating but having a mental block when it comes to writing my profile. Doing it cos I'm a single mother who doesn't get out much to meet people, not bad looking, easy going, fun loving etc just want to find someone to fun with! Speaking of the profile, I haven't got many ideas on writing it but have some tips on online dating! Check these out...

1) Be honest: the more realistic you're. the easier it is for the right kind of person to make contact with you. Sooner or later, any economies with the truth will be revealed!

2) Use humour: If it doesn't cme naturally, don't force it. A profile shouldn't be full of Christmas cracker jokes, and smileys. Be warm. Don't make your profile into a CV or list of life accomplishments.

3) Stay positive: Being negative or rentlessly critical of the world or people around you will turn the daters off. Never say, "I can't believe I'm doing this." Everyone on a dating site is in th same boat: Single %26amp; looking.

4) Avoid cliches: Descriptions full of banalities like: "I've always thought of life is for living", "I love to laugh" and "I'm looking for someone special", mean nothing and make you sound more like a Hallmark greeting card!

5) Give a hook: Hooks provide people with something to respond to. Lists of likes and dislikes often work as something for other daters to pick up on: "Yes, I like Orlando Bloom too. Have you seen him live?"

6) Be original: Think about what makes you unique, and try to convey that in writing. That's what will make you stand out, and is what other daters will find attractive!

They see you from the outside and can see what a wonderful unique person you are Who better to help you blow your own trumpet? Then you have to finish the profile by describing the type of person/relationship you are looking for.

You do have to be careful about the single mother part. However, speaking as a divorced single father, it is encumbent upon you to be honest with the people who reply to your ad, as well as careful for the sake of yourself and the child/ren.

I have been told I am good looking and I would not consider myself a freak or stalker that many people find on the internet dating sites.

With that said, do you think it may be worth it to get a membership to this one site for Jewish dating, jdate.com? I have some hot chicks looking at my profile so i figure it may not hurt to see what they are like in real life.. what do ya'll think? A membership is like $30 a month... otherwise in my real life I can probably find chicks but it is not happening as quickly as i'd like.

The second, I had a great date, drove to her city (1.5hrs from mine) and we went hicking, then had lunch, then went window shopping around town, then had dinner where we got really drunk on wine, so she invited me to stay over.... Internet dating services, while becoming very popular, may present some dangers for those who use their services.

How do you have a real dating experience without meeting the person in real life? How can the dating service protect clients from potentially dangerous clients? What if anything should dating services do to protect their clients?

Who do you think uses Internet dating services?
People use dating services for a myriad of reasons I would assume. Some people may be too busy to go to bars, clubs, libraries, malls or wherever they would go to meet someone. A potentially interesting thought is that we in the younger generation tend to be ultimately skeptical and therefore hold on to finding someone not on the internet, but older people may be inclined to do so. My uncle claims it's the only way he can meet women.... trust me, he's right. He needs that buffer initially.

I think you are also miscategorizing the online dating if you presume people only have e-relationships. Again, I have to use an example of my uncle. He likens the experience to looking for a new job. You get out there and decide you're ready for a change. You set up yourself to look the best you can (I guess that means write one hell of a profile). Then you "go fishing". You send 20 e-mails in hopes of receiving one in return. If someone replies it goes from there. E-mails can turn into phone calls, phone calls can turn into dinner and dinner could turn into eternity. So I don't think ANYONE really gets into online dating presuming they'd never meet the person on the other end of the computer.

I recently read an article about eHarmony promoting a service that will verify identities. If I read it right, one has to opt for eHarmony to run their info to see if they are who they say they are. I also believe they charged something for it. So it's a way for a person to potentially increase the likelihood of matches by having outside verification of who they are.

However, there is no magic bullet. As with any transactions online, one must be careful. However, I hope that if people engage in meeting people or things like that from these websites, they would do enough talking to this person, google searching their name and soul searching before meeting someone.

Another interesting question is how much responsibility should be put on the site to make sure people are safe? If you went to a bar and met someone completely crazy it seems likely you wouldn't sue the bar. Why is there an assumed security to the internet? In many ways going to the internet to date is like going to a bar, it's just facilitated by an outside company solely for that. Not like a bar where you'll encounter 21st birthdays, bachelor/ette parties and things of the like. 3

I'm a proponent of personal responsibility, and this is just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth... probably nothing.

A few years back I was really down on internet dating. I thought that there was no way you could successfully answer a few questions, write a brief bio, and really meet someone. But then I thought, what difference is that then in being, say, at a bar? You have your set of questions and things you want to find out about the other person and you exchange brief bios without wires and keyboards. There was one site that let you write your own quizzes in all sorts of categories. I signed up for it just to play with the quizzes. But it made you write the bio. I did and I had fun with it. Not because I wanted to meet someone, just cuz. Soon enough I would get the occasional message asking for a date cuz they like my profile. I went on a few but it wasn't a match. I was really starting to doubt the sites. But then some guy named vodka420. That one matched. It's been a year now and we are newly married. So all that said, what do you think of internet dating sites like e-harmony?

I am an attractive, educated, sense of humor...young 46 year old...I have little time to go out to meet people and am not into the bar scene...I've tried internet dating but it seems the men just lack follow through or perpaps they just have such a variety of women to choose from they don't want to give any one woman a chance. Well in the first place, anyone who is married or in a relationship has no business being on a dating site. But for a single person it is fantastic and you can meet lots of nice people. You don't give out addresses and pesonal info till you know who you are dealing with. No these people are not desperate. I am one of them. I don't do bars and had no way to meet men. I was very cautious and met lots of nice people online. I am not desperate nor have I ever been. I could live alone If I had to, no problem but I met my husband online and am so thankful I did.

This happened to me once. He could have blocked you. Or just doesn't care to respond. I think it best you move on. It'll take time but in a few months you'll feel allot better than you do today. I would have never met him if it was not for Match.com I found that if you are going out to meet people, like to a bar, you usually get disappointed. People have a tendency to lie about who they are, or are afraid to be really honest. On line, people who are serious about wanting to meet someone, write a profile about who they are and who they are looking for. It takes perseverance, and a lot of profiles to look through and read. But when you find someone interesting, and they find you interesting, you can finally talk on the phone, and then meet. Of course at a public place. Pictures are not a good example of what someone looks like though. You have to be open!!

I didn't find my love of my life on there but i did meet some really great people who i now consider friends (we just didn't click). My expereience I have met 3 guys in person that I had met on the internet. and their pictures were misleading. They looked real good on the internet 1 looked horrible in person the other 2 were decent looking but one of them was short as hell but said he was 6ft. They were nice and didnt try to abduct me though. So what I am trying to say is dont believe everything they tell you and always have it in your mind that they might not look like this in person. If you wind up meeting the person face to face then yes, internet dating could result in a lasting relationship. However, if you are only communicating via letters and MSN, it is really hard to say.

I am getting so fed up w/internet dating. I meet a guy, go on a couple of dates but it never turns into anything or there is something wrong with the person, if it's some drama they are dealing with or they are still married, ect.

I know I need to take a break from it, but when I get bored, I find myself back on the net chating with some random guy.

Am I sad, lonely, bored or what?

Reply:Maybe it's a combination of all of the things you listed. Every one of us would like to think that we don't need another human to fulfill us, but that's not always the case. Sometimes I prefer to be by myself. Sometimes I desire the validation of someone to listen to me, and that's totally fine. Sometimes that person can be one of my guy buddies and sometimes I desire it to be a female. We all want to touch someone's life and have ours touched in return.

I have met some nice normal guys but if i was attracted to them, I didn't hear from them ever again and the ones that i wasn't attracted to where the one's trying to kiss me at the end of the date. I have met some weird ones too. Last saturday I had a date with a guy who was a smoker, had a temper, lied about being divorced (actually had never been married and at age 52, that is a red flag), and acted weird and freaked me out during the date only to write later appoligizing for having a few drinks before meeting me to calm his nerves (drunk).

You are probably sad and lonely as I am too. It is really sad that the few married men that i have met in the past for "my own reaasons" have been attractive, successful, normall, stable, and had good outgoing personalities where as is seems like the single men I meet that are my age range 40-50 are either weird guys that have never been married or had children or they are divorced guys that seem normal and stuff but are either ugly or fat or if they are attractive, they don't like me. I keep trying but you know I cancelled two dates one yesterday and one today because of second thoughts and I feel better about it. I have one to go on tomorrow though because it is the only one that we actually set a time for. He is geeky looking so I know it will be loads of fun. Also single never married at 52, yikes, this will be the last of these I meet. Good luck to you though and try not to give up as I know exactly how you feel.

I have a woman friend who is 42 and she met her boyfriend on an internet dating site. She looks ten yeas younger. So she put her age down as 32 and chatted to this guy for 2 months. Then they met up for the first time and she told him her real age straight away. He didn't mind at all and they feel in lvoe. They have now been together for five years. What do people think of this? First of all, I thought it was a bit dishonest but I see her point...that many guys would have skipped her by in the searches not realising that she looks so good. Also, she made sure she was upfront with them on the first date so as not to lead them along.

That would depend on the definition of 'disappointment', and to what extent that disappointment displayed itself. For example, if you expected entry on the first date but didn't get it, you may well be disappointed. That would not qualify for a refund.

If, however, the date had misrepresented herself on the website, i.e. posted a picture of a babe but was in fact a minger, then you would be entitled to a full refund, and probably compensation on top as well.

I'm seeing someone right now that isn't what I would normally go for a few reasons. But he is the only one I have found that is willing to give of himself where others aren't willing to do that any more. They are afraid of being hurt. I have been dating online for a couple of years now.

This guy has taken the time and study the bible and has gone to promise keepers 3 times to learn the right way to treat a women. It works in my book.

Reply:I catch my so called "man" in so many lies about those stupid dating and chat sites. Some of the pictures I have found are very disturbing. When I show him a picture of a woman that I found in HIS computer he just says that he doesn't know who she is or how she got into his computer. The thing of that is I have found files and documents in the computer that show their conversations. What they said and when they said it. He thinks I'm the stupidest person on earth. I can't say I'm very smart though cause I'm still with him and still putting up with all the crap that he can dish out.

We will see how he likes it when the shoe is on the other foot. If I were to get caught lying to him or doing some chat site or dating site thing he would lose it. I have been putting up with this for so dam long that it ain't funny. My turn to do the same sort of things that he does to me.

One was a horrible person from Glenburnie, Maryland and was without question, the worst relationship of my life. I think if you know how to spot a person with issues before becoming involved you could have great success. Unfortunately I had been just out of a bad marriage and anything looked better than what I had already suffered. I did not have my radar up to par. I met someone the old fashioned way since then (in a bar LOL) and am engaged. He is the most wonderful man I have ever met, is gorgeous, sweet, generous, seventeen years younger than me (lol), gentle, honest, and loves me to death. You could meet this on Match.com or other sites but you have to weed through them. With any way of meeting someone, it does not depend on the means but the character of the person.
