Internet dating?

ok so my sister has signed up for this dating site back in january and this guy found her on the site and ever since then they have been emailing each other back and forth (keeping in touch)....i can tell thAT my sister is so into him and reallly likes him but there is one problem he lives in australia...me and my sister live in ny...i know that she has spoken to him on the phone a few times and he told her that he plans on coming to ny in the summer to see her...i find this to be so strange as to why someone from australia would want to talk to/meet my sister from ny?? i mean cant he find someone closer?? my sister is my best friend and im just looking out for her...im worried that hes coming to see her to get the papers or it could be that he really likes her and wants to meet her....what do you guys think??

Internet dating is crazy, you're right to be concerned for your sister....you can't get to know someone that way...its just crazy, she sounds a bit naive....
Reply:Remind your sister that the internet, while it does bring people together, it also enables a person to create him or herself as he or she wishes he or she really was, i.e. lie. She should be wary if he really tries to rush things. It already is kind of suspect that he's willing to buy a plane ticket to come over to N.Y. (Last time I looked at tickets from the U.S. to Australia, they're some of the most expensive tickets out there. Kind of the "maybe I'll get there at some point during my lifetime" ticket. Granted, this information is kind of dated because it's been a few years since I've looked.) Is he just coming over to see her, or is he coming over for some other reason?





On the other hand, one of my husband's friends met her future husband from another country online, and they were married within about half a year. That was at least 5 years ago, and they're still married and happy. So it can happen.

Reply:lol, when I was dating I met this guy and he was from aussie and he use to call me alot. He planned a trip to the United States and visited a couple of cities. By the time his trip came around I already was dating someone so I never met him but he came here and I think had I still been single and stuff we could have hit it off. Not everyone wants to come to america.. for real! He just wanted to visit back to aussie he went!





She cant help how she feels about someone you cant turn your feelings on and off just like that. If they have been talking for months it doesnt mean they are going to get married. They can date and live in different countries, if he treats her right and loves her be supportive about it. I know you are only looking out for her.
