Why do people look down on internet dating?

Hey all, I'm just curious as to why people look down on internet dating. I've dated many girls online because I've always been so busy with my career that I don't have the opportunity to go out to "social gatherings". Don't get me wrong, I've met girls in the past at work, school, grocery store etc.

My ex girlfriend I met in the Yahoo chat room and we were together for 2 1/2yrs! My current girlfriend I met on the Yahoo personals and I've been with her for 1 1/2yrs now and will probably get married in two.

Just curious as to any stories people have as to why they look down on internet dating. Or if you don't, I'm curious to read any other success stories.

Why do people look down on internet dating?
Honestly, I think they are just scared of getting involved with some psycho online that thinks collecting toe nails is cool :)) or something similar :)) lol

Well I don't blame them with all the Over emphasizing news they hear in the News about how some creep they dated killed them on their first date in a lonely place about 50miles far from their home :| Well DUH! I mean just because those people over looked this "security" fact, doesn't mean everyone you meet online is a creep :| That's generalizing superficially :|

Even I met my boyfriend online, and I really don't think I would've ever met anyone better than him in any other way :) Nobody knows me better than he does :) It's like he reads my mind :) I never have to tell him what Im feeling or what I like... He just knows :) He's the best I will ever meet and am really lucky to have met him :)

I'm glad to hear about your success story :D Congratulations... I will too marry my boyfriend one day :D (sooner I wish :( )

So you see, I guess it just depends on what kind of people you meet... If you go out and meet everyone you met online, within the first months or so, of cause you're GOING to be in trouble... I guess it's about using a bit of common sense and not risking your-life to go meet a stranger... That's why people have been getting in to such issues as the one's in News!
Reply:Some of us are like you and have dated people we met online. I am currently not seeing anyone but am chatting with a guy I met for a drink last month and that MAY turn into something. Too many people seem to think that EVERYONE that is online is a jerk which is totally not true. You just have to be careful and screen people before you meet. It's not rocket science after all !
Reply:i think people look down on it so much is because you are risking the chance of giving personal info and such to a complete creep or a pedophile (if your young). its just a very risky thing to do so many people dont like to be put in that situation. but i have no problem with internet dating. my parents met online and so did my sister and her current boyfriend (of 3 years so far) and it has brought a positive aspect in my life, but thats just my opinion. =D
Reply:It's probably because you only hear about the relationships that don't work out, or where someone gets hurt or killed by a psycho. Internet personals have become a part of 21st Century life, for better or worse. It's just like any other form of dating--you need to take time to get to know the other person before revealing too much personal data.
Reply:Lol, most of the people I know online, lie. I tell the truth about my age, and they think I lie( alot of people think I'm between 13-16 years old, but I'm 48). I did have an online relationship with 2 adult men, but they lied. I really don't meet people online because of so many men that end up killing women when they meet from myspace and craigs list.
Reply:I think the reason they do is cause they believe only ugly people or perverts use the internet that way. On the internet you can be one person and in real life you are completely different. I don't see a problem with it as people are to busy these days to go out and find a person.
Reply:The problem is I have never look down on internet dating. My best friend Amy got her lover through internet dating. SO I 'm on the dating site millionairecupid.com now. Hope I will be luck there too.
